Munchies Café

Munchies Café is home to Burngreave's newest café thanks to the hard work of two local entrepreneurs Yaz Asaad, 24, and Wasim Khan, 25.

Munchies Café is based on the site of the former Amy’s Café next door to the Mangla Restaurant. The café opened on 28th April and offers seating for up to 30 people as well as a takeaway service and sells a variety of sandwiches, breakfasts and meals.

A choice of different foods is available including full English Breakfasts, Grilled Chicken and Steak, Roast Dinner, Panini’s, Toasties and other sandwiches, Chicken and Mutton Curries (with rice), Jacket Potatoes and much more.

Prior to opening up Munchies, Yaz and Wasim had been looking to start a new business and when Amy's Cafe became available they both jumped at the chance.

Yaz is a silent partner in the business and also works in the voluntary sector assisting people with mental health problems and disabilities get in to paid employment. Wasim, previously coowned a similar café in Manor but sold his stake to open Munchies.

Yaz said:

“Spital Hill is a vibrant and upand- coming area and as we both have good links with Burngreave and live in the area, Spital Hill was a natural choice for us.”

Wasim added:

“We opened Munchies café as we wanted to provide a contemporary and modern cafe to the Burngreave area, where people can go and have a breakfast and lunch in a relaxing environment.”

Formerly Amy's Café, Munchies Cafe was refurbished and given a new look. Jenny, who worked at Amy's Cafe, was offered the chance to stay on and accepted. Jenny said:

“When Amy's Cafe was shut down for refurbishment I wasn't sure what Yaz and Wasim had planned, but the new place looks really nice and a nice place to work in. Customers who used to come to Amy's have commented on how nice the place looks”.
