A new Youth Club and Cyber café for Firth Park’s young people opened on the 1st December 2008.
The club, which is held at the Old Firth Park library, offers free access to the internet and PCs in its cyber café, large screen video games, pool, table tennis, table football, music, dance and sports, all free to young people aged between 11 and 19. Sessions are initially being held on Monday evenings from 5pm to 8pm.
A full activity programme is being developed and there are plans for this to include DJ workshops, street dancing, boxing/self-defence classes, graffiti workshops, a range of sporting activities, digital media classes and more. The organisers also hope to use the sessions to increase awareness in topical issues raised by young people themselves, such as gun and knife crime, drugs and alcohol, vandalism, street crime and self-defence, through interactive sessions run by the Police. Some of these sessions will be open to parents and family members.
The initiative was set up after young people raised concerns about the lack of youth-focused activities and facilities in Firth Park. A number of organisations have been working together to start the sessions including South Yorkshire Police, Community North Forum, Sheffield Futures, Sheffield Homes, Activity Sheffield, North Offending Team, CHILYPEP, Fir Vale School and Friends of Firth Park.
All the activities and facilities are absolutely free so if you’re aged 11-19 – get yourself down there!
