The Government has provided £500,000 to address issues involving young people and gangs in North Sheffield which is being used to fund a “Targeted Youth Support Team” based at All Saints.
Violent incidents involving young people which are thought to be gang-related are happening more and more frequently. Youth workers have told the Messenger that these are not so much organised and disciplined criminal gangs, but networks of young people resorting to knives and guns. Concern has been expressed that the new team will engage in yet more preventative work with young people who are easy to work with, rather than targeting those who are really in trouble. Click the links at the bottom of this page to read an interview with Ronny Tucker, leader of the new team, and a comment from one of the young people which the team is supposed to target.
