The atmosphere at Abbeyfield Multicultural Festival was peaceful in spite of fears raised by the shooting of Tarek Choubaib on Friday. People came together to support local talent and were enjoying themselves.
Paul Stead, a local resident said:
“I think it’s better than last year – there are more things to do and the weather’s better! The music’s brilliant and the atmosphere’s good – everyone’s in a good mood and my sister’s kid has enjoyed the danceoff”.
Mohammed Omar agreed:
“It would be better if they did more things for families here. I feel safe here – safety is important and comes first. The best thing for kids is that they can enjoy themselves with their families safely.”
I was really pleased the festival happened, in spite of rumours in the Star that it might be cancelled. We need these sort of events to bring the community together. There is great potential and talent in this area. There’s even more talent than was represented today. More work is needed to find that talent and bring it to next year’s festival.
Green City Action have announced the postponement of Fir Vale Festival. It will be happening in October instead.
