In early march our Y5 and school council children went on a visit to Westminster to visit the houses of parliament and meet with Richard Caborn our local MP. A few weeks later Richard Caborn returned the visit and attended one of our school council meetings.
We wanted to find out more about how democracy works and how we could have more of a voice in how our school is run. We arrived and were welcomed by Richard Caborn. We had a question and Answer session and a tour of the Houses of Parliament which was fascinating. We enjoyed our time with Mr Caborn, so we asked him if he was able to attend one of our school council meetings. Charlie (one of our school council members) sent him an email asking if he could come and he replied saying “yes.”
We all sat down and discussed matters on the agenda. At that meeting we also had our new y1 members; they were excited to hear that their first meeting was very important. Mr Caborn gave us some very useful ideas for our School Council and we all agreed that he should come back to visit again in the future.
