Residents clear-up success
From Francis Feeley
As the Pitsmoor Tuesday Health walk leaders, our group often likes to walk up or down the steps leading through the old Pye Bank estate. Below are pictures of the route taken after we took a group down there recently – the path had become very littered and overgrown. Street Force and 101 told us this is the responsibility of Sheffield Homes.
The photos are from a walkabout on 14.2.08 from the Nottingham Cliff Park to the lower end of Fox Street on the Pye Bank estate. Clearly this route had to be taken off health walk routes for the time being.
We decided it needed to be cleaned up. We agreed we would be pleased to take part in a working group to help clear this path – but who should pull it together? Do Sheffield Homes need to take the lead if they are responsible? At least they need to approve the work.
What next?
Francis Feeley had a meeting on the site with half a dozen different people from different council departments and they agreed to sort out the area. That’s a great result for community action.
Below are some “after” photos including one of the walkers when they tested the route yesterday and declared it a success. The group is also grateful to the team who have finished the path on the other side of Rock Street, below Verdon St, with the new set of steps.
