On 30th January 2008 the Lord Mayor officially reopened the Lloyds Pharmacy on Ellesmere Road in front of their staff, visitors and customers.
Jennifer Harris, the manager, explained to the Lord Mayor how the pharmacy’s refurbishment had finished last December after four weeks of work. Jennifer said:
“It’s a dramatic improvement to working in the very cramped old building. We’ve made the dispensary bigger and we’ve got new staff in to take on more work. We’ve also got a consultation area now for doing testing.”
Lloyds Pharmacy does free tests for diabetes and blood pressure. They also offer prescriptions, over the counter medicines and a stop smoking service. Jennifer explained, “We also do a breath test which tests for a bug in the stomach. Then we can prescribe antibiotics; it’s very new in Sheffield.” As part of the celebration of the reopening, Lloyds encouraged customers to sponsor a balloon. Jennifer told us:
“It’s been brilliant; we have raised £100 for Jessops’ special care baby unit. I’d just like to encourage everyone in Burngreave to come down and have a look in the new pharmacy and see what services we have.”
