Police are currently appealing for witnesses to a shooting that took place at The Plaza on Spital Hill in the early hours of Saturday morning, 29th September 2007. The incident took place on the first floor of the building, in the function room, at a party being held there. It occurred at approximately 3am.
Police believe the shooting to be linked to an argument that took place close to the building during the previous afternoon, Friday 28th September. The victim was shot in the stomach, and had to undergo emergency surgery at a Sheffield hospital. His condition is said to be serious, but stable.
Given that clubs within the Burngreave area are currently facing closure due to council and police action, this latest incident will not bode well for the local community. Recently we reported on a meeting held over the closure of The Cactus Club, and this shooting will only add to the problems being faced.
The party was said to be well-attended, so scores of people would have seen this incident take place, or what happened afterwards. Given the seriousness of this crime, detectives are now urging witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with any information about the shooting, and anyone who witnessed it take place, is urged to come forward, in confidence, and contact West Bar CID on 0114 296 4161. Alternatively, witnesses can contact Crimestoppers completely anonymously on 0800 555 111.
