Burngreave Messenger 2007-10-04 14:47:42

Editorial note: The following letter was received by the Messenger after we went to press with the October 07 issue:

Dear Burngreave Messenger,

We are a concerned residents of the Burngreave area and feel as if we have been left in the dark.

Once again the council has failed to liase and consult local residents about developments and projects in the local area. In particular we're concerned about the proposals for the re-development of Masjid Umar on Earlmarshall Road. As residents we have yet to be contacted for our views and opinions. Also linked to the article you printed in the last few editions of the Messenger I refer to the following quote:

“We have volunteers who help to direct the traffic…”

We have never seen this before and we're often down that part of Burngreave. We would like clarity and transparency about exactly what the council is doing with the proposal. No one seems to have adressed the practical issues of such a development:

  1. The disruption it would cause.

  2. How it would already intensify the daily road rage and parking issues.

  3. How it stigmatises the community.

There are a lot of questions being asked by many residents yet the council seem to be turning their back on the people and allowing the proposal to be sanctioned without referring to those it affects most.

There should be a thorough and extensive public consultation, report and assessment weighing up the BENEFITS and against the DAMAGES & DISADVANTAGES of the development, and only then should a decision be made.

From a concerned Burngreave family.
