Black History Month is an annual event, held every October in the UK, which aims to promote the knowledge of black history, as well as heighten awareness of prominent black people’s achievements.
This year, Black History Month in Sheffield will be focussed on commemorating the 200 years since the abolition of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Within Sheffield, events will be co-ordinated by the Sankofa Project, funded by the Arts Council and Sheffield Futures.
This year’s programme will focus around Africa, the Caribbean, expressive arts and Caribbean food. A variety of events will take place in accordance with these elements.
