Story: Tim Shortland
Woodland management and tidy up in the woodland along Bagley Dike between the Northern General Hospital and Barnsley Road will take place on 27th November 2007. This band of woodland runs along an historic dyke and boasts a fine variety of woodland plant communities. It provides a valuable green corridor extension to Longley Park and is rich in habitats for wildlife. It has the potential to offer a direct yet beautiful and shady access from Barnsley Road to the Northern General Hospital.
We aim to use this event to begin to open up sections of this often forgotten natural resource creating sight lines and visual access into the heart of the wood.
We will meet at the entrance to the woodland almost opposite Hucklow Road, as it meets Barnsley Road above the entrance to the hospital and just below the houses that start opposite the college. This event will be attended by Green City Action and the Ranger Service.
