The impact of the Ski Village

Nylon matting inside Ski Village fence

By Jeff Kirby

Burngreave residents who take time out to enjoy the area around the Ski Village will be aware of the impact of the centre has on its surroundings. Noise pollution from the speakers placed around centre is usually the first disturbance people encounter. After that the sight of the perimeter fencing, which has been breached in a number of places, leaves a lot to be desired.

Then there is the foam insulation that is used below the nylon matting this is regularly found outside the perimeter fence. Over a year ago I spotted some old nylon matting which had been dumped around some trees. It was unsightly but conveniently out of sight to users of the facility.

On 24th May I come across a pile of the nylon matting which has been burnt on the public footpath (see photo). In my opinion the site is badly managed and it is a disgrace that planning permission to extend the facilities has even been considered by Sheffield City Council.
