Colour, vivacity and multiculturalism: These are often the words chosen by many to describe life in Burngreave. It is not surprising that these same words were used by some of the public who chose to contemplate Patrick Amber’s exhibition held at Victoria Quays on the 4th May 2007.

Patrick Amber, a local resident of our eclectic area, presented his works of art revealing an interesting combination of abstraction and figurative work.

Just as diverse as Patrick’s work were the viewers, who came not only from Burngreave but also from Mexborough, Nether Edge and many other areas of the city.

One visitor, Brian Johnson, interpreted this exhibition as a search for multiculturalism, diversity in life, and equality:

“It is saying that people have an equal right to live here and assert their political, economic and social rights. We’ve got to defend multiculturalism!”

A cosy setting and a happy atmosphere dominated a night where different people came together to admire this exhibition and were also surprised by a catering service that offered drinks and food to make the night complete.

The positive energy Patrick has put into his work was reflected by the expressions of contentment of visitors and by the smile of satisfaction Patrick carried all night.

When asked what he felt about the event, Patrick described it as an amazing feeling:

“It’s been brilliant to prepare everything. I’m loving it! It’s been mad and non stop but I had the help of two friends, Tom and Teri. I had about two months to think about it and work it out.

“One of the drawings I only started doing last week, but some of the work that I do is using Photoshop, drawings, photographs and playing around with it.”

Patrick has spent the last couple of years creating his art work. This latest exhibition has been on display for nine days and for those who didn’t have the pleasure to appreciate it, I firmly advise you to have a look and who knows, maybe buy a piece or two.
