Abbeyfield Park Festival postponed

Abbeyfield Park Multicultural Festival, which was due to happen on Sunday 8th July, has been cancelled. A rescheduled date is yet to be confirmed but is likely to be in August.

Festival organisers, Green City Action, told the Messenger the park was too water logged to hold the event. Events Co-ordinator Bob Worm said,

“We met with the Council's Parks and Countryside department this morning, who were concerned about the bottom end of the park near the Children's playground. The water is just not draining away.”

Bob explained that there were concerns about the safety of the electricity supply needed for the stage acts. Also that the damage to the park would be extensive due to vehicles in the park setting up, and that the slippery surfaces would be a hazard to festival goers. The City Council make a series of safety checks before an event that can result in it being cancelled, there was a risk this could happen as late as the morning of the festival.

“It was a difficult decision, but I had to make it. By doing it today we've given ourselves enough time to let people know and the opportunity to reschedule, rather than be faced with having to cancel it on the day.”

Green City Action can be contacted on 244 0353.

Green City Action will be contacting stall holders, stage acts and entertainers to let them know what is happening.
