Tash and Ruth from Your Voice

Story: Douglas Johnson

Another well-produced community magazine is ten years old this November!

This time it’s Your Voice– whose readership and volunteer staff comprise service users, carers & health professionals from Sheffield’s mental health community. To celebrate its ripe old age Your Voice – based at the SYAC Centre on the Wicker – held a party for contributors, service users and supporters.

Current editor, Natasha Marshall proudly showed me the display – arranged by Treasurer Liz Skelton – of ten years worth of quarterly publications, full of intelligent discussion on hot issues in mental health. The magazine has consistently championed the often divergent views of service users themselves, something which continues to empower people.

Over a tasty lunch, the packed room watched as the birthday cake, complete with ten candles, was lit – the start of another ten years. You can find back issues and subscription information on the Your Voice website.
