On 24th October the children were entertained by Jamaica’s famous dub poet Jean Binta Breeze and developed their cultural awareness through stories, songs and games. Their enthusiasm was heightened by Jean’s performance and activities and they took centre stage for their own performance on 31st October. Children opened the programme with SADACCA’s Small People Mission Statement:

“We will be the leaders of tomorrow, so today we will be agents of change. First, I will respect myself, and then I will practise hard work, discipline and diligently pursue my education, so that tomorrow I will be ready to accept my responsibilities as a leader.”

Parents, pupils and staff participated and enjoyed poetry, stories, folk songs, choral speaking and musical renditions. We had a truly lovely evening working together. The children were entertained by our own in-house storyteller Mrs Franklin, and a rousing finale by staff and committee members.

SADACCA’s Study Support caters for children 5-16 years old Mon to Weds 4.30-7.00pm. Our main focus is in the core curriculum areas on Monday and Tuesdays, while Wednesday is dedicated to building confidence, life skills, health and social wellbeing and the arts. While we use tests to measure children’s learning in the core subjects, their development from Wednesday activities are measured by their ability and willingness to participate in debates, performing arts including public speaking and team work, and general behaviour.
