The UK's next generation of circus performers will get the chance to showcase their skills at a special celebration event in Sheffield this weekend.
A group of 12 students will stage the spectacular artistic event at Greentop Community Circus Centre, in Brightside to mark the close of their Open College Network – Circus in Performance course.
The ‘Gallery’ show, taking place on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 April, has been inspired by works of art and each act will be based around the students' favourite paintings. They will be performed using a range of contemporary human circus skills including the trapeze, juggling, diabolo, bungees, clowning and dance.
Sheffield-based TDC has designed the lighting for the show, which will be themed to complement each act. The audio visual and live event support specialists have worked with Greentop's technical manager to create a dazzling display that illuminates the performances.
James Harkness from Greentop Circus, which runs the circus course, said:
"The end of course show is once again set to be a breathtaking performance of contemporary circus skills. The students have worked tremendously hard over the past three months and this event is a fantastic way to celebrate and showcase their development.
“This is the second time we have teamed up with tdc for an event of this nature and it is great to be working with such a creative, local company. Their technical lighting expertise together with the students' impressive circus skills will combine to produce a stunning show.”
Greentop Community Circus Centre is one of only four circus school's in the UK. It provides regular training sessions and workshops for people of all ages and abilities covering a wide range of skills including equilibristics, manipulation, aerial, acrobatics and acrobalance, clowning and performance skills and dance and movement.
The centre also provides youth service support, workshops, school support and works with the youth offending team in Sheffield.
Eamonn Hunt, tdc Director, said:
"It's been fantastic fun working with the team at Greentop Circus to produce their end of course show. The enthusiasm of the students is really inspirational and it's great to be involved with the production of such an energetic, live performance.
“Greentop is a wonderful local charity and that has worked hard to become established as a UK centre of excellence for circus performance over the past few years. This show will provide their latest set of students with an opportunity to show off the variety of skills they have learnt throughout the intensive course.”
