A Burngreave resident is on the road to her target of raising £1,500 for the breast cancer research charity Breakthrough.
One morning while watching TV, Marjorie Beckford- Peart saw a programme inviting individuals to join the Breakthrough’s Aviva weekend to raise money towards cancer research by walking 60km over two days.
As someone with a 17-mile walk for British Heart Foundation under her belt,Marjorie decided to give it a go.
The weekend will take place in Birmingham from 22nd–24th September and concludes with a celebration for all participants.
Breast cancer is the most common female cancer in the UK with 41,000 women diagnosed per year. Men can also develop the illness, but it is rare with only 300 men diagnosed per year.
Breasts have a powerful emotional and psychological impact on women’s self-confidence and body-image.
This disease therefore has a great effect on women’s health and self image.
So far Marjorie has managed to raise £600 for this worthy cause, but needs your help in reaching her goal. She is continuing to collect in the area, or you may prefer to donate online: using reference number: 201038-6 or contact her on 0798 967 9706.
Marjorie would like to thank everyone who has donated and to say a special thank you to her grandchildren, Duane and Paris who have helped with car boot sales.
