Andreas hairdressing

On one beautiful Wednesday, I found myself in a magnificent and incredible hair dressing shop, packed with a multitude of customers from all ages, genders and races awaiting their hair cuts.

John, the manager, was busy cutting a customer’s hair. Earlier this year, he relocated to Pitsmoor Road from Spital Hill.

“Pitsmoor Road is actually a nice location and customers and members of the community were very happy about the move.”

He has been in the business for 32 years and has always wanted to be a hairdresser.

“It feels natural to be a hairdresser – getting on with everyone in a community with loving people is why I like being a hairdresser.”

John first started working with a friend on Spital Hill and couldn’t miss the opportunity to start his own business when his friend gave him the shop. He thought he would repay the gesture by naming the salon after him, calling it ‘Andreas’. It was a very hard decision to move, but he has fond memories and feelings for Spital Hill.

When asked what was the strangest haircut he has ever done he replied, “Nothing is strange, every haircut is artistic.”

If he could cut anyone’s hair, it would be that of Gandhi, “He achieved more in peace than anybody else has ever done through violence,” said John.

John specialises in men’s, women’s and children’s hair from short, back and sides to highlights and extensions. His future plans for Andreas are to expand the women’s section.

John had this piece of advice for the Burngreave Community:

“Let’s carry on as we are, caring and loving one another, Burngreave should be made a better place for all.”
