Artists Claudia Phipps and Amanda Simmons, winners of the open tender to create unique pieces of art work as part of the £3m redevelopment of Vestry Hall, are due to start community workshops in the area shortly.
Richard Hanson, a professional photographer of international reputation and a local resident, has already been working on producing a photographic record of the redevelopment of the building. Another local man, Anwar Sulliman, won the opportunity to work with Richard on this project. To see the progress of the transformation of the hall visit their website
Claudia will be working on the glass infill screen which will be in a prominent position alongside the new main entrance. The entrance has been moved to the side of the building for better access. The screen, at around two metres high and eight metres in length, will form an impressive architectural feature and will make a substantial visual impact.
Amanda will be working on the reception feature. As the first thing anyone will see when they enter the building the piece needs to reflect the aspirational nature of the new use of Vestry Hall and be inspiring as a piece of work in its own right.
Community workshops led by the artists are an important part of the art commissions. It is important to the success of the pieces of artwork that the community are involved in their development in order to ensure that the finished works are relevant and enjoyed by the whole community. Workshop dates can be found below, further dates will be advertised.
