Discontent Continues

Mr Patel of Burngreave Wine Shop fears the proposals could put him and his family out of business. He said:

“Along with a lot of other local people, I objected to the first proposals to place double-yellow lines outside my shop and moving the bus bay.The revised proposal still leaves double-yellow lines outside my shop and moves the bus stop outside somebody else’s family home, causing them to object. Having served this community for over twenty years I now feel my whole family is facing bankruptcy.”

Mr Patel also fears that the proposal to set up a one-way system on Catherine Street to allow customers to park won’t work. “Large haulage trucks, vans and passing trade won’t stop on a one-way system. I will lose a lot of trade.”

Residents’ ideas

Mr Patel and other local people have written a letter to Cllr Jones and the Director of Development Services David Curtis, outlining their objections to the present plan and also giving alternative suggestions. Mr Patel said:

“If you move the bus lane five metres back up Burngreave Road, from Catherine Street to Cranworth Road, there would still be space for 50 vehicles queuing on Burngreave Road. Also this would save a lot of money being spent on traffic lights, moving bus stops and opening one-way systems that local people know will cause mayhem.”
