Warm welcome for regeneration duo

BNDfC is welcoming two new managers who are looking forward to working with local residents to further drive forward the regeneration of Burngreave.

Kate Hurley is the new Housing, Crime and Environment Theme Manager. She joins from Groundwork Dearne Valley, an Environmental Regeneration Charity, where she worked in partnership with Doncaster’s New Deal for Communities programme and more recently the Housing Market Renewal team in Rotherham.

Kate said:

“I am really excited about my new role – Burngreave is such a vibrant area and you only have to walk around Ellesmere Green at lunchtime to see how much there is going on. I am particularly keen to start work in supporting many of the transformational projects that are underway in the area such as Vestry Hall and Sorby House, which are both very positive developments in the area.

“As part of my new job I will be completing an evaluation of the Anti-social Behaviour Team and the New Deal Police to help the two organisations to continue working effectively with the local community and the Safer Neighbourhoods Team. I will also be liaising with Sheffield City Council’s regeneration team and local residents on the housing side to create development briefs for Catherine Street, Woodside and Ellesmere.”

Also joining the New Deal team is Sandra Greatorex, who will be responsible for the Over Arching and Health themes. She brings to BNDfC a wealth of regeneration experience having worked as a Pioneer Area Co-ordinator in Barnsley on a South Yorkshire-wide capacity building project.

Sandra said:

“A key aspect of my new role at BNDfC will involve helping to assist projects to secure alternative funding streams as the New Deal programme reaches its final five years. This will be done though continued work with focus groups and strategy groups to identify positive ways to move forward. We will operate very strategically and aim to get local people to think in the same way.”

Sandra, who spent time in Burngreave when she was growing up, is very excited about returning to work in the area.

She added:

“Many years ago, my Auntie owned the pub on the corner of Carlisle Street and I often went to stay with her. Ever since then I have had a real passion for Burngreave – there are always lots of positive things going on and I am relishing the opportunity to work in the area.”

John Clark, Chief Executive of BNDfC, said:

“We are delighted that Kate and Sandra have joined our team – they have both worked in the regeneration sector for many years and bring with them a vast amount of experience. They have exactly the right credentials and expertise to help us build on the positive work that is already taking place within Burngreave.”
