Abbeyfield Park finally has the shelter that it’s being trying to get put up for over a year.
The project has been dogged with problems – the unexpected need for planning permission for both the structure and the heritage status wall, has resulted in spiralling costs. But it’s here now. The major building work was done by the Green Watch and Burngreave Rangers with help from local young people and paid for by Green Watch Rangers, Burngreave Green Environment Programme, Friends of Abbeyfield Park and Green City Action. All that stands in the way of completion is a £600 bill to rebuild parts of the heritage wall at the sides – everyone hopes the Council will cough up.
Well done to Henk Littlewood for persisting with the project.
