Ruby wedding celebration

John and Margaret Mellor
John and Margaret Mellor

John and Margaret Mellor, of Abbeyfield Road, recently celebrated their Ruby (40th) Wedding Anniversary.

Shortly after their wedding in August 1965 they travelled by sea to Southern Africa where they taught at Thekwane and Kwenda, mission boarding schools run by the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia), returning here in 1979. Having started school in Africa their children, Debbie and Andrew, then continued their education at Firshill School.

John taught science at Colley School until retirement and Margaret worked as a supply teacher whilst the children grew. Now, when not visiting their children and four grandchildren in Birmingham and Cardiff, Margaret is a lay preacher and helps to run a Christian Resource and Information Centre and John can be seen racing around Burngreave, between various BCAF and New Deal working groups and playing the organ at St Peter’s.

Congratulations and many further happy years.
