Girl Guides and Boy Scouts

Story by Doreen Rushforth, Rainbow Guider

At the Scout and Guide hut on Holtwood Road, Brownies have been holding meetings for many years and our Rainbow unit reopened in December 2003. Now a new Guide unit is starting on 13th April 2005.

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides have fun playing games, doing arts and crafts, learning about the environment and lots more. Rainbows may gain badges for participating in a group activities and Brownies can work towards individual badges like ‘Artist’, ‘Friend to animals’ or ‘Stargazer’.

Guides take more responsibility for choosing what they want to do. All groups have outings, joint fun days, and special challenges.

And for the boys, there are Beavers and Cubs and we plan to reopen Scouts in the near future. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts enjoy fun activities such as making things, making new friends, playing games, singing songs, looking at nature, learning how to be safe and working towards group and individual challenge badges. They also have optional sleepovers, camps, fun days, trips and joint parties with other groups.

Guiding and Scouting is open to all girls or boys irrespective of race, faith or personal circumstances. Special requirements of various faiths and cultures are respected and taken into account in the meetings.
