Story by the New Deal Executive Team
A new BNDfC initiative around tackling poverty is to be kickstarted by a major conference.
The Poverty Conference, taking place on Friday 8 April, 12 noon to 5pm at the Spectrum Centre, Brunswick Street, will look at a number of issues surrounding poverty.
Keynote national speakers have been invited from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Oxfam Regender project, which looks at how poverty affects women. Local speakers have been invited by Social Services Family Support, Burngreave Support Network, Advocacy Now Project, Pitsmoor Credit Union, Scoop Aid and Adult Learning providers.
Workshops are set to include:
Poverty and the Adult Learning and Training Agenda
Poverty, Debt, Savings and Credit Unions
Poverty and benefit take up
Poverty and vulnerable families and children
Healthy eating on a budget
The wider initiative around poverty was raised and discussed at the over arching theme group by Pitsmoor Credit Union, Burngreave Problembusters and the Advocacy Now Project.
