Opinion about the article ‘Lessons Learnt’

Dear Messenger

I am a learning assistant with the Burngreave Community Learning Campaign. I have just read the December issue of the Messenger and I felt that I must write to voice my opinions about an article you wrote called ‘Lessons Learnt’.

As I am one of the new learning assistants I found it very disturbing to see the photo of my colleagues and me at the top of an article which seemed more about what the campaign did wrong with the first 18 learning assistants, and not about what it is doing right now.

With our picture being at the top I fear that the Burngreave community may think the problems relate to us, and not to the initial learning assistants.

The campaign is a very useful tool for this community and the learning assistants are very dedicated and helpful people, who want nothing more than to see this campaign improve the lives of the local residents, and to be a success for years to come. Also I must point out that the education program has been improved drastically for the learning assistants, and the majority of us are very happy with this, as we all know we will gain vital qualifications to help progress our careers, and to enable us to give appropriate help and advice to the local community.

I hope you will take this letter into consideration if you write any future articles about the BCLC and I personally would be happy to give you any more information if you require it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.

Yours sincerely Rebecca Cram
