Business successes were recognised in January at the first ever Burngreave Business Awards.
The four awards were part of the Burngreave Business and Enterprise Event where entrepreneurs were offered advice and information on issues such as accountancy, marketing and finance.
There were cheers and applause all round when the winners were announced and presented with their impressive, sparkling glass awards.
Ellesmere Children’s Centre won the Community Impact award, Time For You won the Business Start- Up award, Stress Solutions won Best Customer Service and Allequip UK won Best External Branding. Nellie’s was highly commended in this category with sponsor Graham Parker adding, “She always goes that extra mile.”
The judges also recognised the success of the nominees, The Hook, Francis Feeley Fundraising, Aura Health and Fitness, Hills Office Supplies, John Heath & Sons and Recycling Matters, awarding them with a certificate of commendation.
Talking to the winners and nominees it was clear how much the recognition meant to them. Lee Furness from Time For You said: “I’m really chuffed to have won. I feel really positive that I was interviewed by a panel of people who don’t know me, and they saw something in my business and myself.”
Everyone agreed the awards were a good idea and suggestions were made for next year.
Adam Taha from The Hook said: “Certificates are OK, but it would be better if we got something more constructive, like prize money or training for staff.”
Lee Furness added: “I do think it would be good to have the awards again, perhaps next time recognising businesses not everyone knows.”
