The Neita Sisters
The Neita Sisters

On Friday 4th November 2005 at SADACCA (Sheffield and District African Caribbean Community Association), three local sisters were honoured at the Black History Month achievement dinner and award ceremony.

I personally spoke to the three sisters Pauline, Kathleen and Annette Neita, who told me how active they have been, working voluntarily for many years in our community. Pauline is currently studying British Sign Language at Castle College, Annette is a lunchtime supervisor and an after-school club volunteer at Pye Bank Trinity School, and Kathleen is a support teacher at East Hackney School in London.

“We were inspired by Kathleen,” explains Pauline. “Oh yes,” says Annette, “Pauline and Kathleen ran in the 2003 Flora Light Challenge for Women, a five-kilometre run in Birmingham. I followed in their footsteps when we ran our first London marathon in 2004.” All three sisters completed the London marathon in less than seven hours. “Together we have raised more than £5,000 for the London Sports Forum for Disabled People,” explains Kathleen. “We chose this cause because one of our eldest sisters is deaf,” adds Pauline “We are very proud as sisters and enjoy all the charity runs and voluntary work that we do.”

The three Neita sisters are happy to have received the award and enjoy keeping fit while raising awareness for an important cause making a real difference to our communities.
