Around 70 people enjoyed a fundraising meal at the Burngreave Methodist Church Hall on Thursday 17th November 2005. The meal was organised by Burngreave RESPECT and raised £420 for the Kashmir earthquake appeal.
An extremely diverse audience enjoyed a gastronomic feast supplied by Sabir Hussain from the Kashmir Curry House, and listened intently to Firmeda Din, from the World Aid Foundation. Firmeda is a nurse who has just returned from Kashmir after spending two weeks working in a hospital over there. Everyone was shocked as she spoke about the sheer scale of the disaster and the devastation it has caused.
A number of other fundraising schemes are planned and the long-term aim is to raise enough money to build a small school in Kashmir which would be called The Sheffield School. Sheffield people are especially asked to take part in the scheme.
