Challenge New Deal

There may not have been helicopters, TV cameras or even Anneka Rice in sight but that didn’t make a difference to Burngreave New Deal for Communities (BNDfC) staff who took part in the ultimate challenge.

Around twenty BNDfC employees got their hands dirty in a team challenge event as they put something back in to the community they work for.

They spent the day refurbishing Green City Action’s offices and the toy library – vital community facilities. Green City Action, a community-managed environment organisation, is based in Abbeyfield Park and provides a lending library of toys to local residents – a key resource for families in the area on low incomes. BNDfC staff cleared out the toy store areas and updated the way things are stored so that it is easier for volunteers and families to use. They also painted Green City Action’s offices.

The day ended with a barbeque to celebrate their achievements and launch the new and improved facilities.

Garry Smith from Green City Action, said: “The work carried out by the New Deal team on their challenge day surpassed our expectations. They achieved a great deal in a short space of time, completely redecorating both our offices and reorganising the toy library store. Both these tasks will help Green City Action to deliver services to the Burngreave community.”
