Dear Messenger
Isn’t it strange, where a restaurant like the Kashmir isn’t given permission for a new sign because of what? It ‘detracts from the special architectural and historic interest of the Spital Hill Works.’ Give us a break. They didn’t think that about the special architectural and historic interests of VESTRY HALL did they? They left that baby to rot while they had some meeting about some statue and got fired at by the press. A few million will be needed to get that one off the ground, hey? They wouldn’t have done jack if the £50 million wasn’t here. They would have left Burngreave to rot for years.
They don’t give a damn about ‘detract from the special architectural and historic interest of the Spital Hill Works’ but setting through a government idea for a pat on the back for a ‘well done job’ and a great promotion to another level. Same way when some shirt and tie job did the same mess for the Centre for Popular Music in the City Centre which became what? A rip off and waste of money!
How ridiculous and hypocritical can you get when you don’t even allow an entrepreneur, a business man, who employs workers in that area, invests in the community, pays business tax, and whatever comes with setting up a business, to not even allow him to put up a new sign. New Deal for Communities? Are you sure? Or is it, New Deal under arrest, “You got ideas – fill in a form, but we got our own ideas, and they come first.”
I hope this rings a resounding message that Business Forums better not be some superficial mirror but a forum for entrepreneurs to have power to lobby the government or you become nothing but puppets, and we’re getting sick and tired of puppets. Fight them Hussain all the way! And get involved in the Sheffield Business Forum at the Chamber of Commerce.
