Redevelopments given the green light

Hundreds of Burngreave residents took time out at the recent Abbeyfield Festival to look at the design options for the redevelopment of Sorby House, Vestry Hall and the public realm.

A lot of really positive feedback was received from local people which will allow detailed designs to be made on the options that proved to be the most popular.

Further consultation with local people will take place once these detailed designs have been developed.

The preferred options were:

Sorby House

Option one which includes transforming the external view of the building and significantly upgrading the interior to incorporate a range of new services while maintaining the existing building structure.

Public Realm

The preferred option includes the closure of the slip road in front of Vestry Hall, major improvements to the road and paved areas on and around Spital Hill and the redesign of Ellsemere Green which will include the removal/relocation of the public toilets.

Vestry Hall

Internal area – option one. Plans for this include having the main hall on the ground floor providing a range of activities, teaching classrooms on the first floor and specialist IT provision in the basement.
