Farewell Mrs Saleem

Story by Yasmin Dhoomun

Dina Martin, the Head Teacher of Firshill school, held an assembly on Friday, 19th November to celebrate the retirement of Support Teacher, Mrs Sabihah Saleem, after 18 years of service. All the classes presented her with hand-made cards and gifts.

I asked her what would be her best memory that she’d take away with her?

“Love from the children, support from colleagues and respect from the community. I especially remember, with fond memories, those days which I spent with Sheffield Unified Multicultural Education Service.”

Her colleagues will miss her, Mrs Martin said, “Mrs Saleem was there acting as a bridge for the community on what is happening in school.” Ms Diane Davis said “She’s very nice person to work with in every sense.” Mrs Bundhun Moon said “She’s a best friend and like a sister” and she presented a moving poem in Urdu and then translated it into English.

Mrs Saleem bid an emotional farewell to everybody at Firshill, and will spend her retirement looking after her grandchildren.
